If you are fed up of stuck up restaurants where dishes have complicate names and preparations and expensive wines must twirled again and again before you can drink them, this is the place for you.
Ca dell'Ara is a friendly family ran Agriturismo (farm house which also provide restaurant services) in the heart of Valpolicella, on the mountains overlooking vineyards right outside the village of Negrar.
It is almost like eating at a friend dining room. Main dishes are home made focaccia with salami, gnocchi di malga (mountain style gnocchi), fresh noodles with duck sauce, grilled pork and sausages, home made cakes with Amarone raisins. The Valpolicella, Amarone and Recioto they serve is produced by the owner and it has that simple, genuine taste it probably had before Valpolicella wineries started to produce it using modern wine making technologies to make that international top wine it is nowadays. In the backyard you can still see grapes drying on traditional wooden racks.
Average price: 15 euro per person, including wine.
