Lake Garda Itineraries: Torri del Benaco
Driving north along the eastern coast of Lake Garda you will reach Torri del Benaco. The name of this little village means "towers of the Benaco" (the ancient name of Lake Garda) and is due to the many towers that raised from here in the middle age, few of which can still be admired. It is an ancient fishing village, charming with its small port, square, narrow streets and old buildings painted in the same warm shades of Venice. The village is surrounded by olive trees, cypresses and vineyards of Bardolino wine, camping sites, tourist resorts and hotels that provide fine accomodation all year round.
A ferry service for cars, buses and passengers links Torri and Maderno, on the west shore of Lake Garda, is available all year round.
In the small port you will find typial fishing boats of Lake Garda and beautiful small yachts. On the northern end sits the 15th century "Palazzo della Gardesana", the seat of the federation of ten Garda Lake villages that in the past had the task of keeping control of trades and transports over the lake during Venetian period.
