Vinitaly evening event inside a winery in Valpolicella.

I n 2011 Vinitaly, the international wine and wine making exibition held every year in Verona broke all time records. Recent years international economic troubles seemed to have affected Italian wine business, but last April edition of Vinitaly marked not only the full recovery but also the great success and growth that Italian wines and Italian wine business are experiencing all over the world. During the four days of exibition visitors were more than 150.000 of which 48.000 coming from abroad, with a 10% growth. The exhibition buildings, stands, corridors crowded with operators and wine enthusiasts were a proof of this success. From 2012, in order to increas the number of people attending Vinitaly for business purposes and reduce the number of amatour visitors it was also decided to move exibition days towards the middle of the week. The 45th Vinitaly had also another new feature, the "Fuorisalone". "Fuorisalone", litteraly "outside the exibition" is commonly used in Milan for design and fashion exibitions. It indicates all those promotional events, related to the exhibition themes, that take place in various interesting locations in town. In recent years Vinitaly had already become a "spread out" event, with seminars, tasting, pairing sessions organized at the Gran Guardia palace, right in front of the Arena and wine cellars in Verona wine producing areas have always organized evening events for clients, sommelliers, restaurant owners, journalists of wine magazines and vips. Nevertheless, in 2011 the number and variety of events made many people talk about a "fuori Vinitaly" (outside Vinitaly), like they do in Milan. Beside the usual events in Gran Guardia, the city of Verona allowed the use of the Renaissance Palio Gate, San Giorgio Gate, Vescov Gate, Raggio di Sole Gardens for the organization of tastings, tematic picture exibition, concerts, readings, etc.
